CRAIG ROBINSON UNEARTHS RARE FIND!

Craig Robinson sent in a couple of pages from the 1969 school newspaper, The Arlingtonian. One page shows our traditional Senior Awards (congratulations again to the winners!!) and the other contains "Graduation Brings Memories," our Class Bequeaths to our Teachers, and "Seniors Speculate: What If ... "

Thank you, Craig, for bringing back a lot of fun memories from 45 years ago!

See the Arlingtonian articles. (Be sure to view both pages!)

WHAT A GREAT FIND! THANK YOU, SUSI WISEMAN THOMAS!

Susi Wiseman Thomas is sharing her Pen Points magazines from 1964, when we were in 7th grade, and from 1966, when we were in 9th grade at Jones Junior High School. Craig Robinson has submitted his 1965 Pen Points magazine for your reading pleasure!

Pen Points was a magazine that was (from the magazine's Foreword) "designed to represent the many students who have felt the desire to express themselves and who have been able to do so effectively through form and word. It is dedicated to every student reader, with the hope that he or she will also attempt to reproduce thoughts and emotions for the many persons who are searching for truths."

Some of the writing and artwork is really thoughtful and insightful! Even if you didn't attend Jones, you'll see the works of many of your UAHS friends in here!

Click on either image of the Pen Points covers to see the magazine in its entirety as a PDF. You'll see poems, stories and artwork from dozens of our classmates. Clearly they highlighted the work of the 9th graders, so the 1966 (yellow and orange) issue has more featured stories and illustrations by our UA69ers.

The teachers/editors included: Mrs. Marian Smith; Mrs. Betty Hennessey; Mrs. Joyce Guckert; Mrs. Frances Bretz; Miss Judy Hudnall; Mrs. Ruth Armstrong;Mrs. Martha Yutsey; Mrs. Gloria Bohen; Mrs. Mary Jane Spahr, and Mrs. Ellen Buesling. The Art Editors were Mrs. Anne Smith and Mr. Jerry Tollifson, and the Typist was Mrs. Ruth Griffith. The English Coordinator at the time was Mr. Stephen Nesha.

In 1964 and 1966, our superintendent was Mr. Walter Heischman. The Jones Principal was Mr.Samuel Henderson (1964) and then Mr. David Jones (1966), and the Assistants to the Principal were Mr. Bernie Cellar, Mr. Marvin Baker, and Mr. Walter Niceswanger.

CRAIG ROBINSON'S PHOTOS

When Craig Robinson saw Jeff Stevenson's picture labeled as second grade at Tremont, he wrote to let me know that it's not the second grade; it's fifth grade.

Also, Craig reminded me that in 2004, he sent a collection of class photos from Wickliffe and Tremont Schools, and identified a lot of the students in each picture, including Jeff's photo which is actually the fifth grade (I have fixed that error).

JEFF STEVENSON AND THE BOYS SCOUTS ON YOUTUBE!

From Jeff Stevenson:

I finally figured out a way to take my dad's old 8mm film home movies and put them on my computer. I have been working on it for over a year, but I spent most of that time trying to find and old 8mm film projector, and the rest of it was spent saving $ for a new computer and procrastinating. Anyway, one of the reels has a movie of a Boy Scout camping trip that must have happened around the same time frame as the pic you posted of Mark Bright.

There are lots of Class of '69ers in the movie, some of whom are in the pic with Mark. Lots of hams! I thought our classmates might have fun watching it and seeing themselves and their friends when they were kids - being kids. There are also some dads in the movie who are a lot younger in the movie than we are now.

Gordon Mitchell recently came across these photos of Cub Scout Den 10 of Pack 295, and was kind enough to share them with the rest of us. In the second photo, you can see the boys inspecting their new Lion badges, which they had just earned. Thank you, Gordon, for this historic treasure!

UA69 MINI-REUNION HELD AT JIM FERGUS' HOME: SUMMER, 2012

FROM JIM FERGUS:

During the summer of 2012, we held a "Mini Reunion" for members of the class of '69 who hung out a lot at my parent's house dubbed "Fergus' Bar & Grill." We had a pool table and a ping pong table. I invited Gary Baird, Chuck Anderson, Jeff Hilleary and Gary Utt and their spouses to our summer place on Mullett Lake in northern lower Michigan for six days.

Gary Baird's wife is Kathy Kauffman Baird, class of 1972. Chuck's wife, whom he married after meeting her at a class reunion is Nancy Nutter Anderson also '69. Jeff Hilleary is married to Monika, who did not graduate from UA. Gary Utt is married to Marci Koenig Utt, class of 1971
I am married to Cheryl Lee Cotterman Fergus who is from Wauseon, Ohio and did not graduate from UA, but her cousin, Bob Cotterman, was in our class.

We had a great time boating, swimming, kayaking, playing water volleyball, eating and just talking to name a few things we did. Each couple took a night to be responsible for dinner either making it or taking us to a restaurant, one of which we arrived at by boat.

Below are some pictures that Kathy Baird took.

VINTAGE PHOTO SENT BY JEFF PUTNAM
From left to right:: Harry Reinhart, Doug Roberts, Scott Roberts, Jeff Putnam, and Dick Van Schoyck.

From Jeff Putnam:

Above is a photo that appeared, mysteriously, in our local paper, The Mount Vernon (Ohio) News, this summer. They run a “From our Files” feature where they publish a photo from their morgue and ask people to identify it. I look at them.

When I saw this one, I was more shocked than I’ve ever been in my life. I have no idea how this ended up in the photo morgue of the paper here, and the editor couldn’t enlighten me. I think the likeliest explanation is that somehow the News’ photos got all mixed up at some point with other papers’, or other photographers’, photos.

None of the guys could remember when or where the photo was taken, but I’d say it was 11th grade (1968 or so).

PAT DYNES UNEARTHS 10 YEAR REUNION PHOTO!
Pat Dynes came across this fabulous picture from the Class of 1969 10-year reunion in 1979 ... are you in it?

VINTAGE PHOTO FROM GARY BASSETT

Gary Bassett sent in the photo above that his sister gave him while he was in town recently. The newspaper photo shows eleven UA graduates who were part of the 1974 OSU marching band. In addition to Gary, the group included UA69ers Craig Heselton and Dean Grinch, as well as Karen Gilbert's brother John Gilbert.

Gary left the ads to the left of the picture and we found the "Food Crisis" ad to be interesting!

Do you ever stop to think about how great the Sixties were, and how lucky we were to be able to grow up during that time and be a part of the great changes that took place during that decade? It was turbulent in many respects, but it also had a flavor of its own that now brings back memories of an exciting, absolutely fabulous time in our history!

Please enjoy this Web site that will take you back for a few moments ... and maybe even make you miss the Sixties. I learned a lot, watching this presentation!
